Healthy and Natural Aging For People Over 50

Most of us realize we should take care of ourselves by eating right and exercising. At 20, our bodies may let us off the hook a bit if we do not eat right or skip some sessions at the gym. But at fifty, or seventy, it is much more important to make health a hobby.

Scientific studies show us that our bodies, fitness, skin, hair, mental state, etc. are all joined together. A healthy diet and fitness routine that improves our heart health may well make our skin look better too! Our moods can also be improved, and we may find that our brains stay sharper later. Of course, that road runs both ways. Negative lifestyle choices can hurt us in multiple ways.

Consider some of the good fats, like Omega-3, which is found in some seafood. A study considered the issue of why American Eskimos had a very low rate of heart disease despite a fairly high cholesterol diet. It was not thought to be the consumption of cholesterol that affected them in a positive way, but the high consumption of Omega-3 oils. This can also be good for skin and hair.

As we get older, we do tend to slow down. Not only do we tend to become less active, but our metablolism slows down. The same amount of food at 50 will probably make us fatter than it would have at 20. But we can reverse this with moderate exercise. And not only will a nice walk or bike ride help us look leaner, it can lower disease risks and perk us up!

Making sure that you get a minimum of 2 hours of exercise every week can really help your insides and your outsides! Two hours is not that much. Twenty minutes a day, 6 days a week, can actually improve your health. Think about that. You can walk around the block a couple of times or watch a tv show while using your stationary bike. Try it for a couple of weeks and see how you feel!

You do not have to give up carbohydrates and fat. You should just try to prefer the good fats and carbs over the bad ones. Good carbs come from fresh fruit and vegetables and whole grains. If you must go out for a steak and a potato, try to select a smaller portion. And be sure to add a salad and some fruit to that meal.
