Get The Truth On A New Lifestyle Product ? E-Cig Fallacies, Realities And Self Serving Fiction

Environmentally conscious smokers are turning to electronic cigarettes as a new lifestyle product. This recent phenomenon offers a safer alternative to smoking tobacco products that is rapidly gaining popular support. E-cigs leave no odor, require no ashtrays and are easily identifiable as a healthy lifestyle choice.

David Hammond of the University of Waterloo U.S. reminds us the warnings on tobacco products are among the weakest in the world. There have been few changes to the warnings since they first appear in 1984 on cigarette packs. The warnings point to the most debilitating diseases smoking is known to cause but nothing has been done by the surgeon general or the FDA to require warnings to reflect new evidence of the past 25 years.

Smoking was socially acceptable activity for generations. It implied an image of sophistication, maturity and style through advertising campaigns. We were told independent women smoke Virginia Slims but no one mentioned that the Marlboro man died of lung cancer. The public has learned more about the dangers of smoking tobacco and about the chemicals ingested each time they inhale.

The introduction of the electronic cigarette provided a new choice for those addicted to tobacco. E-cigs provide the nicotine boost of tobacco without clothing and homes permeated with the odor associated with smoking. Smokers opting for the alternative of e-cigarettes can choose from many flavors and nicotine strengths

Many of the 599 additives present in tobacco cigarettes are food additives that have been extensively tested but the testing was for the additives when ingested orally. Chemical properties change when substances are burned and the tests do not prove the safety of inhaling the high number of compounds produced when the additives are consumed by fire. One burning cigarette produces more than 4000 chemical compounds. Reports from major tobacco manufacturers released by the U.S. Department of Health lists 599 additives present in tobacco cigarettes.

Our society is now focusing on healthy lifestyles and a massive change in public attitude toward tobacco is also fueled by our goal of environmental protection. There is little health benefit to exercising regularly if the exercise is followed by inhaling hundreds or thousands of damaging chemical additives. What is the point of an organic, healthy diet and eating unprocessed foods if the meal is followed by a tobacco cigarette?

The electronic cigarette came under attack from the time it was introduced to the public in 2003 as an alternative to tobacco smoking. It is almost comical that big tobacco and big pharma lobbyists call for a ban on electronic cigarettes due to ”safety issues”. The FDA expressed its own reserves about e-cigs in a clear bow to pressure from the powerful lobbies.

Tobacco smokers are arriving at their own conclusions. The weight of evidence pointing to serious health risks combined with the high cost of the products due to recent tax increases has led many dedicated tobacco smokers to choose the alternative of e-cigs. For the first time smokers have found a new lifestyle product that will provide the pleasure of smoking without the risks and costs of tobacco.
